Night's Master
Words by Beth Wheeler
(Inspired by the "Night's Master" novels by Tanith Lee) 1993

Far below the earth
Where the demons hunt the souls of those that sleep
In the city of the Vazdru and the Drin
Where the black flame burns inside the palace fountain

Go nowhere on a horse
That fades away into a mist at dawn
Don't ever put your trust in demon gifts
For your dreams will betray you in the morning

Go blow a silver pipe
And call on him who dwells beneath your feet
But mortals must beware if he appear
For the Prince of Demons grants you what you prayed for

Go nowhere with a man
With cloak like eagle's wings and raven hair
Though his beauty like a black sun blinds the
eye This meeting you will regret forever

The Lord of Darkness waits
To trap unwary folk with clever lie
But careful, lest he's caught in his own web
The Prince must remain a child forever

He must not see the sun
That pierces like a sword into his heart
For once his darkened outer self is shed
For all time he's severed from his brothers

Far below the earth
Where the demons hunt the souls of those that sleep
The Prince's nights are haunted by the sun
And the black flame rises from the demon fountain.
